Upcoming Events

Tuesday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m. please join us for the Friends of the Rockville Library's Annual Meeting featuring guest speaker author Kitty Snow.

Harris Stilson’s job was driving the streetcar but his passion was photography. His images of Richmond in the early 1900s offer a glimpse into our city’s past seldom seen before.  He captured momentous events such as African-American troops returning from World War I and every day activities including laundry wagons and cobblestone workers. His great-granddaughter, Kitty Snow, has written three books, From a Richmond Streetcar, On the West Clay Line (Jackson Ward, Carver, & Newtowne), and Up & Down Church Hill (Images by Harris Stilson & Oral Histories from Church Hill, Shockoe, & Fulton) with a fourth book coming out this fall. She will share images from the Stilson collection and stories of life in Richmond when the streetcars ran. Books will be available for purchase and signing by the author.

The Advisory Board meets quarterly on the fourth Tuesday at 7:00 pm.  Meetings are open to the public.  Call the library at (804) 749-3146 to confirm date, time and location.  A general membership meeting is held in October of each year.  The membership is informed of meetings and other activities via email or if requested, in writing.  Subscribe to our mailing list to be kept abreast of upcoming Friends-sponsored programs, book sales, special events and board meetings.
